For our last project of the year, my class was tasked with creating a vintage poster. I ended up straying from the original task and went for a more modern look with some vintage elements. I choose to make a poster for the movie The Avengers.

INSPIRATION/RESEARCH |
In my research, I found some vintage style posters and posters I like the style of. My personal favorite was The Incredibles poster, and I decided to go after that look. Since the characters in The Avengers all wear/are different colors, I couldn't go with the exact same color coordinated look as The Incredibles poster. I did, however, try to use as few colors as possible to make the design look more two dimensional. I drew each character in this style using the pen tool in Adobe Illustrator. I then played each character in the style shown in my final product that illustrates the dramatic superhero genre in movie posters today.

PROCESSI made this piece on Adobe Illustrator and I primarily used the pen tool and color selecting tool. First, I found promotional images of each of the characters. I then traced each image in the two dimensional style I mentioned above. As I individually traced the images, I began to layer each character. You can see the progression of my illustration process on the right. Once I finished making every character, I added a red background in illustrator and added the text "The Avengers" and "Earth's Mightiest Heroes" as shown above. Finally, in Photoshop, I added two paper textures to add some depth to the poster overall.
REFLECTIONI am very satisfied with the end result of my poster. If I were to go back and change anything, I would change the color scheme, considering the poster came out brown when it printed. Other than that, I believe I used my time wisely to complete this project and utilized my resources well.
