Every year at Morristown High School, we remember the departing seniors in our yearbook by highlighting their achievements and actions in the Senior Superlatives. These Superlatives feature over 70 students in 40 categories correlating the accomplishments and character of the Morristown senior class of 2017
PLANNINGFor the planning, I looked at the Superlatives in our schools past yearbooks to reference what styles I liked and the ones I did not. I also went to sites like Pinterest to look up other Superlatives and get more creative inspiration. One element I knew I wanted to incorporate in the Superlatives was masked images, because I believe it makes the layout look much cleaner. I also had to include color, because the theme of this years yearbook is "Color Me Colonial". I also liked the idea of including icons that illustrate the category from a visual perspective, rather than just having the text.

THE PROCESSThe first thing I did to start this process was photograph paint splatters for the background, which I did by using colorful paint powder. Next, I created a file in Adobe Illustrator with a black background and began to add in the white rectangles and title text. Next, I visited the Noun Project to find the icons I wanted to include, as I mentioned in the Planning. After finishing the layout, the photo taken process began, and I began to mask the images in Adobe Photoshop to then be placed in the layout. All of the photo work, like the masked students and paint splatters were done in Photoshop, while the layout was completed in Illustrator.

DRAFTING |
THE FINAL PRODUCT |
The drafting process began with working with a classmate and the yearbook club to create the best possible design. We knew that we had to incorporate color in some way, but how we were going to do that was the biggest challenge of the drafting. We were unsure if we were going to do large paint splatters as the main focus of the layout, or individual splatters for each individual. In the end, we decided to go with a large paint splatter in the background. Also, considering that I was working with another person, we had to come up with the best way to make the layouts look cohesive, which we also resolved by sharing fonts, sizing, spacing, and other important elements of the layouts.

I am very pleased with the final product of this project, and am glad that it will be seen by my peers and kept in the memories of this years graduating class for years to come. With the resources we had and the time constraints, I believe I worked to the best of my ability to product the best project I could. What I am especially thankful for is the help from my classmate, Ally Dovano with helping through the entire process and creating the fourth layout, and the photography teacher Mr. Kievning for aiding in the photography process as well as providing cites throughout the entire creative process. I hope that I will be able to do this again next year or at least help with the creation of this, I did enjoy it and the fact that it really stretched my creativity and graphic design ability.
